Africa is home to about a third of the world’s languages: more than 2,000, in five language families. At least 75 have over a million speakers; the rest are spoken by communities of a few hundred to several hundred thousand. Most are primarily oral, with little in written form, which is why passing them on to the next generation matters.

How do the online classes work?
Classes are live and in real time. You log in to the Learner Portal at your class time and learn with your tutor and classmates.
What ages do you tutor?
Children (5–12), youth (13–17) and adults (18+). Under-18s are registered by a parent or legal guardian through a Family registration.
How much does it cost?
$59 per month per learner, billed monthly in US dollars through Stripe. Families and organizations registering more than one learner get a group discount; for example, two learners cost $115 a month.
When do classes run, and what times are available?
The school year runs from September to May. Each language has several weekly class times, shown in UK, Eastern (EDT) and Pacific (PDT) time. You choose your class when you register.
Can I cancel?
Yes, you can cancel at any time and you won’t be billed for the following month. Months in which classes have already been taken aren’t refunded, and because classes are recurring group lessons, missed classes can’t be refunded or made up.
Do you offer 1-on-1 classes?
Classes are offered in groups of about 8 learners.
What do I need to join?
A computer or tablet with a webcam and microphone, and a stable internet connection. For children, we ask parents to make sure they’re in a quiet, safe space during class.
Can a school, place of worship or community group register?
Yes. Choose Organization on the registration form to register up to 20 learners at once.
My language isn’t listed. Can I request it?
Yes, please do. Let us know which language you’d like to learn and we’ll get in touch as classes become available.
